Barbara Ackerman is a fine artist and graphic designer living in Bennington, VT. After working as a graphic designer for 15 years in Burlington, VT she moved back to her home town of Bennington to teach design at the local high school and continue her studies in fine art.

Barbara’s recent work includes explorations in mixed media. She starts with imagery from the temporal, natural world and uses shapes that are familiar– patterns and colors that create a remembrance of an experience. She uses shapes and patterns to represent pieces of a world full of mystery–connecting the visible and invisible worlds. Her work reflects the layers of experiences that color our lives and the patterns we encounter and create.

Barbara received a BS in Art Education from the University of Vermont where she studied painting with Frank Hewitt. She completed the MFA program at Johnson College/Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, Vermont.
